A Two-Phase Approach for Reliability-Redundancy Optimization of a Communication Satellite

The development and launch of communication satellite projects pose significant challenges costs. expenses can range from several hundred million dollars, contingent on factors such as mission objectives, system size complexity including the vehicle, ground infrastructure. Satellites must be designed to withstand harsh conditions in space, extreme temperatures, radiation, other hazards, while delivering reliable services its users. However, once a is launched, physical maintenance interventions become infeasible event technical problems. Thus, reliability critical aspect for these expensive systems. This study aims minimize cost high-tech by addressing design considerations that meet customer requirements without exceeding power redundant equipment limits. To achieve this goal, we propose an integer non-linear programming model research. solve problem, adopt two-stage solution approach. Conventional industrial practices often involve iterative attempts determine redundancy level onboard units based requirements. These processes rely heavily experience engineers who evaluate limited number alternatives units, resulting sub-optimal outcomes. In contrast, our proposed approach systematically handles problem yields optimal results. Our findings demonstrate two-phase levels within seconds.
